3 ways to improve your B2B social media

The old saying that the cobbler’s children have no shoes is particularly true for me in the world of PR and social media. I spend my days promoting my clients and helping them improve their social media presence – yet my online presence is sorely lacking.

So, in taking a bit of my own advice, I thought it was time to share a few tips for improving your businesses’ social media presence – while doing the same for myself. The following tips can help you create a polished, professional footprint for your B2B brand that is sure to engage your followers and attract new ones.

1.     Keep captions short

If you take a look at your social media feed, you’ll notice that most businesses only include 3-4 lines of text with each post. You may be thinking that’s not enough space to tell your story – and it isn’t. But it shouldn’t tell the whole story. The best B2B social media pages include links back to the company website. The job of the caption is to entice the reader to click on the link and read more.

If you find that you have more to say than a short caption, I’d highly encourage you to start a blog, if you haven’t already. A blog is a great place to deep dive into industry topics and provide tips for your clients and prospects. It’s also great content to share on social media.

2.     Talk about your services

While social media is a great place to share photos from around the office or comment on industry trends and news articles, if you are not talking about your services you are missing a huge opportunity.

Your social media feed should give followers a snapshot of who you are and what you do. Company culture is important, but if people don’t know who you serve, what you offer and what makes you different – your phone will not ring. Create content that highlights your products and/or services and includes links back to your website. This can include blogs or static web pages.

3.     Create custom branded graphics

I recommend including a graphic or image with every post you share – even if this is the link preview to your blog. However, much of the content B2B brands share does not have an image to accompany it. That’s where custom branded graphics come in.

Websites like Canva allow you to create graphics using their library of templates. You can upload your brand colors and fonts and create templates for the different categories of posts you share. Armed with this tool, it will be easy to create a cohesive, polished look on your social media page.
