Financial Executives International (FEI) is the premier organization for senior-level financial executives. The organization operates on a national scale, with local chapters offering networking opportunities and continuing education. Locally, FEI Tampa Bay has nearly 200 members across west central Florida that represent virtually all industries and company sizes in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. 

Content Marketing 

I started working with FEI Tampa Bay in 2014 as an extension of its board of directors. The organization needed content marketing via its regular newsletter, light media relations and social media management. At the time, they did not have a social media presence and needed guidance on how to rollout a social media program that helped boost membership and increase brand awareness. 

“FEI is a group of senior-level finance professionals, so naturally marketing and communications are not our forte,” said Mark Winkler, head of the organization’s communications committee. “We were also a bit lost on how to leverage social media to connect with our target demographic.”  

Working with the board, I created a LinkedIn page for the chapter and rolled out a customized social media strategy. I also revamped the newsletter to include more photos, graphics, and clickable content so the board could easily track what members were interested in.

Increased Engagement

In just a few short years, the chapter’s LinkedIn page has grown to more than 450 followers – more than double the number of members FEI Tampa Bay currently has on its roster. The newsletter – which goes out to more than 300 people – also has a 30% open rate, compared to the industry average of just 17%. 

“Kasey has helped us to present ourselves in a professional manner and enhance our regular communications with members,” said Mark. “The newsletter and social media have also become valuable tools for our chapter to communicate with our sponsors, prospects, and local community members.” 

In addition, I’ve helped the board spread secure local news coverage and created ad hoc marketing materials to help support membership and sponsorship activities. 

“It’s nice to know that our board can carve out the marketing piece of the organization and hand it over to Kasey entirely,” said Mark. “We trust her expertise and know that if she says she will do something, it will get done.
